Pitching To Dad, 1992
Acrylic on Canvas
The first of several paintings I did for a local art space show, the theme being "Play Ball!". Most of the other artists' work centered around celebrity players, and while I definitely had my favorites growing up, I wanted to center my submissions around how I remembered the energy and excitement of playing in little league games.
I had desperately wanted to be a pitcher, so I constantly nagged my dad to catch for me. He agreed (most of the time) but much to my annoyance, he insisted on sitting in a lawn chair rather than kneeling.
I was thrilled when someone bought this and messaged me afterward, expressing how it had resonated with him and made him recall his memories with his own father.
